I am new to the Elite Fighter system, I am currently in my first week of training. I live in Orlando, FL and am far away from the schools in Kentucky and North Carolina. I have martial arts backgrounds in Tracy's Kenpo, Ed Parker's Kenpo, and Moo Duk Kwan but this is my first time trying to learn from a distance.. My question is how do the ranking trials work for distance learners?

There are two methods for testing. First is during a seminar tour. The test is conducted through a special arrangement with an instructor. We just completed such a tour in the Orlando area recently. Each year one of our chief instructor's travels to the Orlando area for training. This occurs during the first or second week of May.
The second method of testing is through video. Prior to your test, you will be sent a script and details for filming. The script is either read off-camera by a friend or it may be played back via audio recording. There are certain procedures in place to ensure the authenticity of the test. These procedures are carefully outlined in the script.
Once the tape is complete, the video is sent to one of our regional offices where it is carefully reviewed, scored, and critiqued in the same manner as if he was present. The results are usually returned within a week.
Since we have grown so quickly throughout the world, we are continually looking for new and innovative methods to carry these teachings to you and guide you in your training.
We are beginning another seminar tour Monday, May 24 through Friday, May 28 in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. E-mail for details.

Concerning testing...
Let's say an individual started working on the Defender Level material in March. This would definitely not allow him or her to be ready for the trials coming up. Would this individual need to wait a year and a half to test at the next trials? Since people are picking the system up at different points I guess it makes sense that some would have to wait longer.

There is no minimum time required to test in the Trials. If, in three months training, you are ready for testing, we will test you. Our 49 week training guide was developed to allow everyone, starting from scratch, to be ready for testing. Some do not require that much time, others more.
Currently, we do not have an 'annual event' for the Trials. This is anticipated within the next couple of years. Testing can be done in person, or via video taping. See the new posting in the Ranking Trials section of the Praetorium.
