Kick and Punch Development Training

This method gives you a systematic way of taking a weapon and practicing it to make it perfect.

Take a weapon and practice it five times, focusing only on the first principle. Then move on to the next principle and practice the weapon working on that aspect only. By the time you have practiced your weapon five times with each refinement, you will have improved the execution of that particular weapon immensely. As you progress, increase the number of repetitions per aspect up to ten. In future workouts, start combining principles two at a time, three at a time, and so on until you have perfected all aspects of the kick in one move (excluding slow motion, of course).

1. Form—foot position, knee, smoothness, hips, etc.
2. Slow motion—for control and development of muscles and balance.
3. Height--Start low and gradually increase the height level.
4. Extension—keep adding inches of reach
5. Balance and repositioning—back to position, forward into a follow up stance, and backward into a defensive stance are ways of repositioning to practice.
6. Independent movement--Avoid any unnecessary movement.
7. Initial speed--This is one of the most important elements.
8. Target focus—strike at a specific target with accuracy rather than just striking in the air with no focus.
9. Retraction--Retract the weapon quickly to close your targets.
10. Power--Use a heavy bag to develop power in your strikes.
11. Footwork—work with different types of footwork and different directions
12. Constant cover--Always keeps your guard up.
