Hi all! I've recently purchased the home study course and, while I'm waiting for the course materials to arrive, I've decided to get acquainted with the forums.
My name is Luke, I'm thirty-three, and I'm from England. I have a brown belt in Shotokan Karate, gained when I was a late teenager, but I haven't trained formally for many years. I've been looking to study a new martial art for quite some time but it has taken until now for me to settle on American Kenpo.
I work as an English teacher in China, and I've lived in a variety of cities across the mainland. The nature of the job means that I rarely stay in one place for longer than a year or so, and I divide my time between China and the UK; this makes it difficult to study a martial art in the conventional face-to-face way at a school. For this reason, the home study course is a perfect fit for me.
Although the practical applications of martial arts techniques in real world scenarios are important, I must confess, I have always been more interested in the underlying philosophy, theories, and forms of artistic physical expression inherent in martial arts. I don't wish to study American Kenpo in order to fight - I wish to study it in order to develop myself in a meaningful way, both physically and intellectually.
I look forward to getting to know you all as I progress through my training and develop my skills. Good luck to all of my fellow students and many thanks to the Lamkin's for providing such a wonderful opportunity to study the fascinating martial art of American Kenpo.
