I'm having trouble understanding just what the yellow freestyle techniques listed in the Library of Kenpo are for and how they are practiced. Are they supposed to teach attack techniques or are they set up for practicing the first 10 self-defense techniques? I'm also having trouble understanding all the "B" codes and how they add up.

The freestyle techniques are not in the student workbook but appear in the LOK and in the yellow belt manual put out by Mr. Parker, Jr. (found online but I don't recall the source right now).

Are these techniques integral to advancement or are they optional (i.e. nice to know but not needed to progress in American Kenpo).

The Kenpo Freestyle techniques are not usually taught as curriclum in most schools. We included them in the Library of Kenpo because they are part of the American Kenpo heritage. The best freestyle system is found in our manual, Master of the Ring. The freestyle techniques are also included in that manual. They are not essential to advancement in Kenpo, however, complete understanding of freestyle fighting is. In an upcoming DVD, we are going to teach the freestyle techniques listed in the manual.

Thanks. Why aren't these techniques usually taught?

Do you have an anticipated release season (Fall '08, Spring '09, etc)?

We anticipate the Kenpo Freestyle DVDs to be completed by late fall 2008.
