I took an idea from the instructor series and started working with the concept the last couple of months. One problem "weak kenpo" has is the ability to deal with wrestling type moves. "Strong Kenpo" is full of great stuff that works.
The "circles of motion" Kevin Lamkin demonstrates on one of the instructor series videos has been cross bred (no pun intended to my last name) with wrestling's pommelling drill. This is an essential skill in blending anti-wrestling skills with striking skills.
It also helps to create anchoring strikes (strikes that slip from caught positions into high-pressure motion when they slip from their anchoring) [anyone know the Kenpo term for this?]
This drill went over in class very well, as much of the competition tries to work on student's weaknesses in competition, and this circle of motion "under pressure" drill seems to help fill in the gaps.
Once again thanks for all the ideas, concepts and principles over the years.
