We started adding in a wrestling workout drill section in class to improve student's strength. Part of this was adding in Fireman methods of rescuing. This helps two-fold: 1) students start learning counters that involving standing up and 2) they start learning what they can do, such as picking up, or dragging an individual across the floor while crawling below the smoke. (Note: Never move someone who is injured unless the emergency dictates you have no better choice!)
These sort of goal oriented training bits make hard work more satisfying, and perhaps harden the individual with floor work.
On a side note: It was interesting to review old wrestling manuals, the uppercut break (pin) in wrestling which is very similar to the "key" move in Kenpo (such as the break in Obscure claws) was called Whizzing.
