I was watching "Mind Body and Kick Ass Moves" and they showed Philippine Soldires (Police) training on their M1911A (type) handguns. The drill was having a practice knife wielding opponent run at you full tilt while you tried to draw and fire on them. They said the knife wielder could overcome the holstered pistol from over 20 feet away.

This is a reminder to all martial artists that intent and will are serious problems to anyone facing a determined ambushing attacker.

Here in Canada they passed many laws about protecting your guns, since owning them severely increases theft and subsequent illegal sale. Apparently many of the guns turning up in Toronto were stolen weapons with ammo, all from the US. The law worked by reducing theft within Canada, but opened a huge market for smuggled weapons.

It works the same with cigarettes, when the government increases taxes on cigarettes, theft and smuggling goes way up, sometimes the courts are lenient on smugglers when it is so popular. However I doubt that any firearm offense is taken lightly here.
