"Let's Get it On!"
I am very pleased with my assistant (James S) as part of his qualification for Green Belt he was to participate in a Contact Match (light.) He not only participated but fought well showing much skill.
Unfortunately we did not video tape the 1 round match for later reviewing, but he has come along ways in the 7 month training period.
When the pressure was put on he rose to the occasion. Note this was a "David and Goliath" match where his opponent was 10 inches taller and 165lbs heaver! The match ended with a small marginal loss 26-21, however this match was to test James' fighting spirit and he showed much.
Congratulations James S on the promotion.
The match was a very successful part on James' personal training that previous training bouts had identified some areas for improvement. No longer retreated from punching in the route he entered, he often suffered grievous kicks moving backwards into his opponents kicking zone. He learned much about hugging outside the larger person's zones and reduced his opponent's ability to land many kicks.
The main points gained by his opponent was multiple head shots, several which were well placed, but due to his opponent's height.
His opponent fell victim to some well angled round house kicks to the kidneys and was able to take advantage of multiple striking to the midsection.
This match was conducted with 1 referee and 2 points counting judges in the audience of about 50 people who were rather eager viewers of the display. Good Sportsmanship and some quality skills were demonstrated.
