Apparently when my Hitmaster came in, they had a mega sale $50.00 off, which pretty much covered shipping and the Super Bright LED option in my case.

Thought I would let everyone know. Looks like possibly a web only deal.

Currently we are experimenting with a proper backing for the pad that allows accurate counting. The "Kick" shield approach seems to have failed. Better hang a heavy bag up and give it a whirl.

Also, on another note: Herman is "capable" of doing all the tests hitmaster is, although we have had problems making herman count correctly (doesn't count fast enough, and double triggers happen.) However the reaction time (speed test with herman) works fantastic, also tells you the momentum change (in g x 2) on the read out (fast reaction and how hard you hit)

You probably will get better results with the Hitmaster after a few practices. When it hirst comes out of the package, the target seems to be a bit stiff, however, it relaxes with use. I have used it with an air-shield very succesfully. It may be the type of air shield that is causing you problems. If you have a curved, or irregular shaped shield, I suggest placing a 1" sheet of foam rubber underneath the Hitmaster target. However, I prefer the standing heavy bag as a target for both the Hitmaster and the Herman. Also, if you have slicing or glancing strikes, Hitmaster may not ready the strike.

I prefer to use both devices for what they were designed for. Herman is great for power, Hitmaster for speed and reaction time. Used both, you can get a great workout and help to avoid burnout with the newer students.

Mr. Lamkin,

Thanks for the insight. My wife and I personally put the hitmaster though a few hours of pounding today, and as you said the accuracy of the device immediately fell accurate. It works fine on a square kick shield (unless you don't hit hard enough), however a small (25 kg) heavy bag deforms behind the pad too easily and the count was way off (60 hits in 10 seconds, it only counted 14)

I love the reaction timing feature. We often use it to time pieces of self defense techniques as well as various basics. It seems to be helping people understand just how slow (or fast) basics are and how they fit into the scheme on an individual basis.

My second has "Herman" attached to the computer, I have not seen it in action yet, however I am told that the computer screen displays all 3 axis graphically and that you can see better the effect in all dimensions.

We also noticed that by using multiple targets (as in a multiple attacker scenerio) and using "herman" a better model of the self defenses can be achieved. ie No more is there a major kick and a fumbled second kick. or vice versa. Now you need to kick hard into one target, control the recoil and use the recoil into the second target. They can be measured now. I will be soon inquiring about multiple sensors on herman. Note: we couldn't get herman's software to work on Win 98, even though it runs, we could not get it to recognize the device was there, even though System said it was. Windows XP worked just fine.
