As a yellow belt working toward orange, can you give me some sort of measuring stick to go by as far as the quality of kicks and the combinations required for orange? The girl on the tape appears to be a 2nd black, so I clearly can't attain that level for some time to come. But what should I expect of myself at this level? Thank you.

Orange belt is considered to be where the 'form' of any basic starts becoming critical. What is expected for the Orange belt is to be able to execute the kicks with balance throughout the duration of the kick and to plant back down with control, and not to fall into a final stance. You should make your kicks at about waist level with a moderate amount of speed. Speed and power come with time, so your emphais should be for proper form. The final component that we look at is whether the kick would have effectiveness in combat. Your kicks will probably not have black belt power at this level, however it should have street effectiveness power.
