Hi gang,

I just had my first lesson with Kevin Lamkin.

I am no longer a skeptic. The techniques are just what I wanted when I studied kenpo. There is no wasted motion in this stuff. I only learned two Practice Combat scenarios, but I learned a lot more about the system and how to train. I need a partner. Anyone in my area interested, just let me know. Kevinis supposed to be organizing a training group. Now I can say, I am first generation Elite-Fighter!

I have a (maybe stupid) question.

I know there are only six levels in the Elite-Fighters System. I just read, the link listed in you announcements
www.elite-fighters.com/home/aboutus/aboutus.htm

In the development page, you referred to the seven stages of man. My question is, why are there only six levels and not seven?

Maybe its not important, or I'm trying to read more into things than I should. But that's a hobby of mine when I deliver shipments. So, please enlighten me if you could.

Cord,
There's no stupid question. You are not reading too deeply into things, either. However, we do want you to know that we do not try to hide things in our system. We want the system to be open and transparent so that it will not become a cult like so many other systems have.

If you read about the seven stages of man, you will notice that the 7th one is death. That is why we have six levels. The 7th is a spiritual level that we cannot confer upon anyone; however, we can point the way.

I just had a lesson with Kevin today. we went to the gym where my kids do cheerleading. There's a huge TKD school there. I got there early to stretch out and listened to the parents talk about how great they think they are getting it at the belt factory. That school is huge. Their instructor boasts 350 students, but I would say definitely 280. Anyhow, when Kevin came in wearing the Elite-Fighters uniform, I knew it would cause a stir. I was expecting them to say someting stupid, but instead everyone said stuff like 'man - he looks like he knows what he's doing' and 'I wonder what he teaches?' Well, I had to speak up say what ELite-Fighters is, and their instructor came out to make some sort of comment. I though Kevin would punch him out. But instead, he smild, shook his hand and congratulated him on running a successful school. That made everyone melt. Well, after Kevin threw me around for a while, people lined up to ask for lessons and their instructor asked for him to teach 'self defense' there, since they don't have any. Kevin said no, just read the web page and decide if they can make the commitment for hard training.

Well, I have made that commitment and I'm glad!

When we decided on what uniforms to wear, we had several criteria in mind. These are listed on this link:
www.elite-fighters.com/home/new/uniforms.htm

Your obersvations were correct. Too many people see traditional karate 'gis' as pajama-like and do not take the practitioner serious.
The other option is the modern eclectic stylist who wears his 'new traditional uniform' of sweat pants and tank style T-shirt. These guys want to look modern, but choose to dress like Bruce Lee did in the 60s. I have even seen some dressed in yellow jumps suits - even today.

Our uniforms are designed to fight in. People who do not know anything of the martial arts assume the wearers of the uniforms to be experts. So that puts the pressure back on you. Make sure that you take your training seriously. Do not give Elite-Fighters a bad name by accepting an average as OK. You are doing a good job, Cord.
